Dear Ms.Garber’s next year class ,
Well first I will start by saying Ms.Garber is a great teacher who loves her students. I came in the middle of the year and didn’t have a clue what was going on.Ms.Garber really helped me to get back on track. One think that I liked About this year is the pages program that we did.Pages gave us a chance to bond and become closer.I had wonderful classmates this year,With wonderful classmates your life will be easier. One thing that I would suggest is that you stay on track with your work.If you fall behind even one or two assignments “oh god”Other then that this class isn’t that bad.(oh and stay on her good side)Good luck guys.
Summer time in Senegal
The breeze of the warm wind
The smell of the salty lake water, salt on my skin.
The different voices in my ear.
Everyone’s at the market saturday afternoon,fresh fish,fresh vegetables,fresh fruits.
Preparing a nice family meal,Everyone sits and enjoys it together.
I’m brown like mud but green like grass
moving in slow motion
blowing with light wind
leaves on my branches
light of the sun shinning down on me
yet I am still alone
I never really knew about what a digital footprint was.I have social media accounts like snapchat and instagram .I post pictures and videos all the time.people see it my followers and they like and comment.some of my followers I don’t even know and they still like and comment and sometimes people screenshot pictures and videos and resend it to other people. On snapchat you can screenshot people’s post and videos .you can also send someones post to someone else with them knowing that you sent their post to someone else.
My family is from Dakar,Senegal ,Senegal is on the west coast of Africa. Our native language is Wolof, but half of the population also speaks french because we were colonized by France.Depending on the tribe you are from you sometimes speak a different language ,but will most likely still speak wolof .THe Jollof people speak wolof ,if you are Fulani you speak pular. Some of the tribes like Dialo(Jola),Mandinka(mandingo)and Sere have their own language but still speak wolof .What tribe you are depends on you last name.My dad’s last name is Diouf(joof) so we are Sere but we do not speak Sere we speak Wolof .My mother last name is fall so she is just a Jollof .
Now we go into religion 92% of Senegal’s population is muslim,They have such a strong faith in senegal. When its time to pray the mosque says the Athan and everyone gets up to pray.Sometimes everyone goes to the mosque to pray.On muslim holidays everyone gets together and Celebrate. That’s why it’s not the same being here and being back home.
As a Muslim female I don’t not wear a hijab to cover my hair,Because wearing a hijab is not something that you have to do.Something that we are asked to do is cover our bodies from men Other than your husband ,father and children. As a 14 year old I am in high school. All of my friends that are Muslim wear their hijab. This is something that their parents tell them to do or something they chose to do themselves .The problem is you can guide someone to do right,But you can’t force anyone into Islam. In surat an-Nur it saysقُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَ يَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوْجَهُنَّ…
“Say to the believing women that: they should cast down their glances and guard their private parts (by being chaste)…”
Some muslim woman wear an all black abaya that shows nothing but their eyes .When they go out everyone seems to stare and be afraid of them.
One day I was in school I told one of my classmates that I was Muslim….her response to this was “no your not Muslim ,you don’t look like that” why don’t you speak Quran?”.The main problem here is that people in this society are so uneducated. What is a Muslim suppose to look like…….
That response is like me telling someone you’re not catholic…..why don’t you speak bible? Now that’s exactly what that sound like.
Some people say things like this just to be ignorant. This is the problem people act ignorant and uneducated.
without hijab what’s the difference at the end of the day I’m still me لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله
lā ʾilāha ʾillā-llāh, muḥammadur-rasūlu-llāh

I am an all white painting ,I may look plain and boring , but If you think about it you can use your imagination to make me to anything you want. You can add colors and shapes to me I can even be a portrait if you want me to. I can see the look in your eyes you look at me as if i don’t belong here ,As if I am worthless .You seem confused of what I am ,but as you can see I have confidence in myself I hang high above this beautiful piano in gallery D and I hang here ,because this is where I belong.
